Speaker, Trainer, Program Developer, and Consultant
Dr. Brian Mistler is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who brings a uniquely broad set of skills and talents to his work in helping institutions or athletics departments address mental illness and mental health and wellbeing. Dr. Mistler draws from over a decade of experience in understanding the challenges campuses and athletics departments face and provides expert guidance at every level.
Dr. Mistler has published work in the Journal of College Student Psychotherapy on assisting student-athletes when going through transition periods, whether from an injury, playing time and perceptions of success and failure, or when dealing with challenges to identity when nearing the end of their playing career.
He is the developer of the I CAN HELP™ program on mental health and suicide reduction. The I CAN HELP™ program was created to go beyond what is available in other programs and designed so athletics departments and institutions can provide training on their own through trained staff or student-athlete leaders.
He has served on the boards of The Center for Collegiate Mental Health and NASPA’s Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice and has been a Title IX compliance officer and trainer.
As a psychologist, Dr. Mistler understands that these issues are confusing. Anxiety disorders, eating disorders, suicide, and prescription drug abuse are not simple. He enjoys helping organizations and communities overcome the problem of stigma, increase help-seeking, and build a culture of understanding rather than confusion on these complicated issues.
